1983, The Brink Of Apocalypse
November 8th 1983 is now recognised as one of the most dangerous moments in history, when Soviet fingers hovered prerilously over the nuclear button. On this near fateful day, senior figures in the Soviet Union convinced themselves they were about to come under nuclear attack from the West. The vast Soviet nuclear arsenal of missiles, bombers and submarines were put on maximum alert ready to launch a full nuclear retaliatory attack on Western Europe and the US.

VideoTime – Shorts: cameraVideo
For our next VideoTime – Shorts event on Thursday 4 november we have invited curator Caterina Benvegnù from Italy. This evening she will present cameraVideo: an exciting evening program with works of Italian and international video artists. 12 short films will be introduced and screened.
CameraVideo
CameraVideo is the third edition of an open call for Italian and International young video artists that this year has been enriched into an itinerant festival.
Nowadays, video seems to be one of the most widespread medium for the exploration of reality, camerVideo wants to investigate which direction the artistic research of young video makers is pursuing.
Movement-image / time-image
The phrase ‘movement-image/time-image’ quotes the philosopher Gilles Deleuze, who links his reflections on cinema to the concepts of movement and time: from a movement-image, founded on the importance of the narration, to a time-image that expresses directly the nature of time and underlines the importance of the fragment, of the dissociation, of the unhomogenity. Breaking up the narration linearity, the time-image has its apex in the crystal-image, conceived as pure fragment of time. The protagonist becomes time itself. Fiction and reality, virtual and actual mingle in the same image with no possibility to be distinguished.
cameraVideo, without claiming to give definitions or draw predefined paths, intends however to recover the concepts Deleuze outlines, proposing to comprehend how young artists’ experimental works dealing with movement-image/time-image could create and activate possible imaginaries on concepts and ideas urgent to contemporary age.
This way, the composers of cameraVideo go into deepening audio-visual elaborations, and give life to further reflections opportunities and to stimuli able to involve the artists and the audience. The title cameraVideo plays with the double Italian meaning of the word camera: camera and room. So, cameraVideo is a room to focus on video, both on its conceptual research and on the relation with the medium.
Fondazione march for contemporary art
The program is initiated by fondazione march. Fondazione march is a contemporary art space that needs to tight bonds with its own territory, deepening those artistic traces that change and transform our way of see and live. Since three years the Foundation proposes exhibition activities and meetings in order to open up possibilities to know experimental realities in the artistic field: from the cycle of lectures “What is the Contemporary?”; to the artist residence project; to editing meetings where young artists can present their research projects; until competitions aimed to investigate new tendencies of contemporary art, like “cameraVideo”, dedicated to young video artists.
